Admitted to law practice
Joseph A. Potkonicky Jr., son of Joseph and Paula Potkonicky of Austintown, has passed the Ohio Bar Examination and has been admitted to the practice of law.
Atty. Potkonicky is a 1988 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in chemistry from Youngstown State University, and he earned a juris doctorate degree from Cleveland State University.
He lives in Austintown with his wife, Janet, daughter Kara and son Tony.
Ohio Bar president, again
The president of the Ohio State Bar Association has reappointed James E. "Ted" Roberts of the Youngstown firm Roth, Blair, Roberts, Strasfeld & amp; Lodge, as chairman of the Independent Judiciary & amp; Unjust Criticism of Judges Committee for 2005-06.
A graduate of Youngstown State University, Roberts received his law degree from the University of Akron School of Law in 1974. He is a member of the OSBA's Council of Delegates, a trustee and past president of the Mahoning County Bar Association, and a past chairman of the Ohio Council of School Board Attorneys.
In the community, he serves on the Stambaugh Auditorium Association's trustee board, the East Side Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, and the executive committee of Operation: Save Our Airborne Reservists.
Roberts is active in the Youngstown YMCA and lives in Poland, with his wife, Cynthia.
The OSBA maintains 43 standing committees and 10 sections, each of which monitors a particular area of law. Committees and sections work to improve the justice system by keeping Ohio lawyers informed about the latest court decisions and regulatory changes.

Computer science degree
Jason Daniel Bakos, son of Dr. and Mrs. Jack D. Bakos of Boardman, received his doctorate in computer science last week from the University of Pittsburgh.
Bakos, a 1996 graduate of Boardman High School, received his bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University in 1999 with a major in computer science and a minor in electrical engineering. While at YSU, he was enrolled in the University Scholars Program.
He has accepted an assistant professor position in the computer science and engineering department at the University of South Carolina in Columbia effective Tuesday.
