County commissioners meet twice this week
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mahoning County commissioners will have two meetings this week. The commissioners will conduct business at 6 p.m. Tuesday at American Legion Post 737, 16465 Milton Ave., Lake Milton; and at 10 a.m. Thursday in their hearing room at the county courthouse. Commissioners said they want to get back to having meetings in other parts of the county as they did earlier this year when they were out drumming up support for the half-percent sales tax.
Festival celebrates Hungarian heritage
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown American Hungarian Club will celebrate its annual Hungarian Heritage Day at the clubhouse, 2219 Donald Ave., 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 11. The festival will feature seventh-grader Andrew Check, who will play the cimbalom, as well as folk art dating to the early 20th century, including paintings, photographs and figurines.
The festival's entrees include Hungarian goulash, stuffed cabbage, Kobas and sauerkraut. The $2 admission also includes American and Hungarian music. For more information, contact Ethel Kripchak at (330) 792-5124.
Crime Watch to meet
NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township Crime Watch will have its next meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at Shepherd of the Valley, 9111 Sharrott Road. The meeting will feature a presentation by Bill Saltsman of the U.S. Postal Service. He will demonstrate how to use the Postal Service's features via Web sites.

Program offers insight into mental health aid
COLUMBIANA -- The Help Hotline Crisis Center encourages counselors, clergy, social workers, law enforcement officials and funeral directors to attend a program concerning mental health during responses to mass fatalities Sept. 7 at the Dutch Village Inn on state Route 14.
Information will be presented by representatives from the Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana coroners' offices and a commander from a federal response team designed to provide mortuary assistance in the case of mass fatalities. The workshop is provided at a reduced cost of $5 per person because of a grant from the Ohio Department of Mental Health. 4-mill police levy plan facing third reading
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Village council advanced a measure to place 4-mill police levy on the November ballot. Council passed a second reading Friday. Passage of a third reading is necessary; another special meeting is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the administration building.
