Conference examines research law, ethics

YOUNGSTOWN -- Humility of Mary Health Partners and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Human Research Protections will host a two-day National Education Conference on human subject protection Monday and Tuesday in Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University.
The use of human subjects in research, whether biomedical or social research, carries with it many regulations and ethical implications.
The conference is scheduled to attract more than 300 research professionals from across the country.
Each day a variety of faculty from academia, federal and state government, professional associations and industry will gather to discuss human subject protections.
Federal government representatives scheduled to appear are:
UBernard Schwetz, director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Human Research Protections.
UJeffrey Cohen, president of HRP Associates and past president of the Applied Research Ethics National Association.
UErnie Prentiss, chairman of the HHS Secretary's Human Research Protections Advisory Committee.
