BOARDMAN POLICE Traffic program to focus on north side

BOARDMAN -- The police department's neighborhood traffic enforcement program will now focus on the northern portion of the township.
NTEP started this summer by Chief Jeffrey Patterson responding to ongoing traffic complaints in residential neighborhoods. The program focuses on speeding and safety belt/child restraint violations. A secondary benefit is an increased police presence in the neighborhoods to deter crime.
The focus on neighborhoods in the northern part of the township is in response to traffic complaints emanating from there as well as ongoing auto theft and theft from auto crimes.
On July 29, a police officer working an NTEP detail saw a vehicle speeding on Afton Avenue, a street that's been the subject of many speeding complaints.
Before stopping the vehicle, the officer ran the registration check which revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen from Canton.
Police arrested Kenneth Land, 43, of Youngstown, on multiple charges including receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.
