GIRARD -- Police are investigating four vehicle break-ins and the theft of a satellite dish.
According to police reports, cars on Olive Street, North St. Clair and Washington were broken into and a satellite dish from a Joan Avenue home was stolen late Wednesday evening. A $3,000 device used to located underground utilities was taken from one of the vehicles, police said.
Eagle Scout project
CAMPBELL -- Boy Scout Dominic Corso,15, is looking for some help with his Eagle Scout project, which is fixing up the exercise center at Roosevelt Park. He plans to tear down the center and replace the sit-up board, chin-up bar, leg flex and other equipment.
Dominic, a Boardman High School freshman, is a member of Boy Scout Troop 54, which is sponsored by Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church. He is looking for donations and for help doing the work.

Grant scam warning
YOUNGSTOWN -- A company offering to provide citizens with federal grants in return for a fee is running a scam, U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan said.
A Clearwater, Fla., company called the Government Grant Association offered that deal to at least one district resident, said Ryan of Niles, D-17th.
"However, once the consumer sends in the fee, the only thing they get in return is information on how to write a grant, if anything at all. This information is available free of charge at the local library," Ryan said.
The company has an unsatisfactory record with the Better Business Bureau in Clearwater, he said.
"Consumers who receive a call like this should know that no one could promise them a grant," Ryan said, adding that only the government determines who receives grants.
School art show set
COLUMBIANA -- The 14th annual Columbiana High School Art Exhibit will be held in the Salchow Room of the Columbiana Public Library from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through May 7.
Original works have been created and arranged for display by Nadine Martin's art students. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
Club pushes sales tax
YOUNGSTOWN -- The South County Democrats, a local political club, is asking Mahoning County voters to support the half-percent sales tax on Tuesday's ballot. The three county commissioners, as well as other elected officials, are members of the club.
The group is suggesting court consolidation, reducing the duplication of services, and responding to the complaints of residents in a timely manner as ways to improve the county's operations.
Student arrested
BOARDMAN -- Police arrested an 18-year-old Boardman High School student accused of having a loaded Beretta handgun in his car's glove box while it was parked in a school lot.
Steven R. Suszczynski, 18, of Willis Avenue, Youngstown, was charged Wednesday with illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone, a felony, and misdemeanor counts of underage possession of alcohol and marijuana possession. Officials were not available to explain why the student had a Youngstown address.
A bottle of bourbon and part of a suspected marijuana cigarette was found in the car, police said.
School administrators found the pistol; they searched the car because the student smelled like cigarettes, police said.
Youngstown choir in D.C.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Connection is on the road to Washington, D.C., to participate in the America Sings! National Festival. The event will be held on the mall across from the White House with 1,500 participating students from across the nation.
The festival opens tonight and continues through Saturday.
The Connection will perform Saturday afternoon and then join the other 48 choirs Saturday evening for a choral performance, complete with choreography led by John Jacobson, president of America Sings!
Local home ransacked
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Kiwatha Road home was broken into and ransacked sometime before 6 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
The owner has been slowly moving into the place, which was bought last November. Any losses will be reported after an inventory.
