PREP TRACK Mahoning County meet set Saturday

Boardman girls and Struthers boys will defend titles at Falcon Stadium.
AUSTINTOWN -- The Boardman High girls and Struthers boys track teams will attempt to defend their 2004 crowns at the 93rd running of the Mahoning County track and field meet Saturday at Fitch High Falcon Stadium,
Boardman girls earned 851/3 points last year while Struthers boys scored 722/3 for the boys crown.
Sixteen schools are entered. Running preliminaries and field events will begin at 10 a.m.
The 4x800 relay is set for 10:30 a.m. while the rest of the running finals will start at 11 a.m.
Competition in 100
The boys 100 race will feature Mooney's Nick Mazerik (10.6 seconds), Canfield's Angelo Babbaro (10.9), Chaney's Michael Gibson (11.0) and Clarence Howell (11.2), Campbell's David Garcia (11.0) and Ursuline's Ryan Curry (11.2). The top record in the three divisions is (10.9).
Howell and Gibson placed one-two last year in the long jump and are among this year's leaders with efforts of 20 feet, 5 inches and 20-41/2, respectively.
Nick Panezich is back for his final county outing and he'll defend shot put and discus titles. He's thrown 60-7 and 188-5 this season. The county records are 61-7 and 168-4.
The girls long-distance races will feature defending 1600 champion Jessica Moore of Boardman and defending 3200 winner Andra Sanders of South Range.
Ursuline's Cierra Bennett (61.7) is the defending 400 champ. She'll be challenged by Boardman's Jenna Agnew (60.7) and Moore (61.8), and Struthers' Ashley Gailbraith (61.3).
Six of the area's top 4x100 relay teams will compete, including defending champion Chaney (52.3). The others are Campbell (52.1), Fitch (52.1), Poland (52.2), Boardman (52.2) and Canfield (54.2).
Poland's Amber Ferraro is the defending 100 hurdles champ. Other champions are Canfield's Tiffany Betras (50.9) in the 300 hurdles and Boardman's McKenzie Kline (5-0) in the high jump.
Warrior Invitational set
BELOIT -- The Warrior Invitational on Saturday at West Branch High will feature defending boys champ Howland and girls champ West Branch.
Eight schools are entered and the meet will begin at 9 a.m. and run continuously.
Some of the featured athletes in the boys division are Leetonia's Aaron Merrill in the shot put (59 feet, 21/4 inches) and West Branch's Jim Boals (166-5 1/2) in the discus.
West Branch's Eric Baltputnis (10.8) and Scott Thomas (11.0) will be the athletes to beat in the 100.
The distance runs will have Salem's Aiman Scullion, Paul Shivers and Lance Murphy, and Howland's Vinny Freedman entered.
McKenzie Wallace of West Branch, Deirdre Clary and Liz Shivers of Salem will be featured in the girls middle and distance runs.
Leetonia's Malorie Valentine (38-9 and 114-10) will be tested by West Branch's Lydia Bardo (36-5 and 114-10) in the shot and discus.
