PREP SOFTBALL Springfield routs Jackson-Milton in ICL matchup



Christy Warren had a homer, triple and two doubles in the 12-2 win.
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Christy Warren's fourth over-the-fence home run of the season powered the Springfield High softball team to a 12-2 victory Thursday over Jackson-Milton.
Warren also tripled, doubled twice, scored two runs and brought home three runs for the Inter-County League-leading Tigers (12-3, 6-1).
Winning pitcher Krista Snyder (6-1) contributed four hits including two doubles. Colleen Platt had three hits and scored twice while Heather Snyder had two doubles. Also with doubles were Danielle DeWitt and Samantha Cavalier.
For the Bluejays (5-9, 2-5), Kay Bruss doubled.
Mineral Ridge 1, Western Reserve 0
MINERAL RIDGE -- Senior Kaili Gehring pitched a two-hit shutout and freshman Heather Reinhart provided the offense for Mineral Ridge.
The Rams (9-7, 4-3 ICL) collected just three hits off losing pitcher Katie Harmon, but Reinhart had two of them. One was a triple in the third inning when she scored the game's only run.
After Reinhart's triple, Jamie Goodman grounded out, with Reinhart scoring on the play.
Lowellville 10, Campbell 3
CAMPBELL -- Winning pitcher Carla Blinsky (6-5) contributed three hits including a homer to drive in six runs for the Rockets (10-5).
Juli Peterson also had three hits while Casey Wilson and Lindsay Wilson each had two hits.
For the Red Devils, Jocelyn Pannunizo and Victoria Steiner had two hits apiece.
Struthers 4, Alliance 3
STRUTHERS -- Annie Grischow's single in the bottom of the seventh inning brought home Niki McGuire with the winning run for the Wildcats.
Sam Ditman had a two-run single and Amanda Ruozzo doubled home a run in the Metro Athletic Conference game.
For the Aviator, Allison Marini hit a three-run homer in the third inning.
Lakeview 10, Liberty 0
CORTLAND --Junior pitcher Lindsay Whetzel (3-1) fired a one-hitter and faced one-batter over the minimum for the Bulldogs (7-4, 3-4). She struck out six batters, walked none and contributed three hits including a triple.
Her twin sister, Lauren, also had three hits including a double to drive in two runs.
Brittney Bucco and Amy Downs also doubled and Downs and Jen Baker drove in two runs each.
Megan Kay was the Leopards' only baserunner after a second-inning single.
Champion 11, Brookfield 1
CHAMPION -- Catcher Alyshia Brink's one-run single sparked the five-run first inning for the Golden Flashes (16-1, 7-0) in the Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Jaclyn Carpenter (7-0), the winning pitcher, scattered three hits and struck out 11 and she also hit a double, single, drove in a run and scored twice.
Courtney Christy hit a pair of singles and scored the only run for the Warriors (3-11, 2-5).
Southeast 11, Woodridge 3
RAVENNA -- The Pirates (6-5) broke open the contest as it scored six runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth.
Katie McCrady (4-2) pitched a complete game as she scattered five hits to pick up the win. Jessica Hines sparked the Pirates with two triples and she drove in five runs
Katlin Bailey led Woodridge (0-12) with a double and two singles.
