Rapper 50 Cent's six-week reign at the top of the nation's album sales charts was ended Wednesday by the woman who was all but counted out years ago by many in the music business: Mariah Carey.
Carey, whose future as a bestseller was considered so dim three years ago that she was dumped by the EMI Group, tops the charts again after her new Island Def Jam CD, "The Emancipation of Mimi," sold 404,000 copies in its first week in stores, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
50 Cent's "The Massacre," which has sold 3.1 million copies, fell to No. 3 after selling 140,000 copies last week. Alt-metal band Mudvayne claimed the second spot on the chart with its "Lost & amp; Found" on sales of 152,000 copies in its first week.
Interact Club coming
A community-based Interact Club is being started for the public and parochial high-school students living in Girard, Liberty and McDonald.
Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people ages 14-18. The program gives young people an opportunity to participate in community and international service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends. Through service activities, Interactors learn the importance of developing leadership skills and personal integrity, demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others and advancing international understanding and goodwill.
An informational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Armando's Restaurant, 3807 Belmont Ave., Liberty Township. Reservations are required. Real life inspiration: "I don't think it's really appropriate or effective for me to write a song about going to the club and hitting on a girl, you know what I mean? Especially because of the show and the profile of my marriage with Jessica -- that's the reality people have come to know and love."
