Motorcycle crashkills Austintown man
YOUNGSTOWN -- Jose Lopez, 54, of Burkey Road, Austintown, died early Wednesday from injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash on the East Side, said Lt. Mark Milstead.
Lopez was riding his 1991 Harley Davidson in the 1200 block of Oak Street when he went off the road and struck a utility pole at 2:36 a.m., Milstead said.
Lopez, who was not wearing a helmet, died later at St. Elizabeth Health Center from multiple injuries, including head trauma, Milstead said.
Tree-planting projectfor Austintown grove
AUSTINTOWN -- The Rotary Club of Austintown will plant the first of 100 trees that will comprise Celebration Grove at 12:45 p.m. Monday in Township Park.
The grove is sponsored by the Rotary, in conjunction with Austintown 20/20 and the township parks.
"This project started almost a year ago," said Rotary member Gary Reel. "The Rotary of Austintown got together with the Austintown 20/20 and the township parks and started selling memorial trees so people will be able to honor a loved one or remember an event."
Each tree will have a plaque honoring the event.
The remaining trees will be planted through the planting season.

Planetarium programat center in Girard
GIRARD -- The staff of the Girard School District's 21st Century Community Learning Center will present a portable planetarium program at 6 p.m. Monday at the Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave.
The program is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.
The portable planetarium is an inflatable dome with a cylinder projector that can show the night sky, from the North Pole to the equator, without any light pollution.
It can show the night sky as it looks currently in the Australian Outback or in New Jersey.
It can give a view of our galaxy and help us to study the solar system.
The handicapped-accessible planetarium is from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

Road-E-O event
CHAMPION -- The Northeast "A" Regional School Bus Road-E-O will be held May 7 at the Trumbull County Career and Technical Center.
The Road-E-O is open to any certified school bus driver in Ashtabula, Trumbull and Mahoning counties.

Walk for the Animals
WARREN -- The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County will host its 10th annual Walk for the Animals on May 1 at the Packard Park Shelter House on Mahoning Avenue.
The event is in conjunction with Be Kind To Animals Week. Registration and the Blessing of the Animals will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The walk will begin at 2:30 p.m. and last about an hour, after which food will be shared.
Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 money raisers and for the most unusual pet. T-shirts will be given to the walkers who raise $50 or more.
The Walk for the Animals Committee invites the public to join in the fun and great camaraderie while raising funds for the programs.
