Craig Clemson hit a game-winning single in the 10th to lead Maplewood.
McDONALD -- McDonald High pitcher Corey Vukovic pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out 12, to improve to 3-0 as the Blue Devils blanked Jackson-Milton 1-0 in an Inter-County League baseball game Monday.
Tyler Stanley drove in Steven Hughes in the first inning for McDonald (7-4, 4-2). Steve Bowles went the distance for the Bluejays, striking out three and walking two.
Springfield 16, Mineral Ridge 4
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Aaron Wood and Mike Sobnosky each homered to lead Springfield.
Joey D'Amato had two hits, including a triple, and Andy Richey, Andrew Farich and Zach DeJane each added two hits for the Tigers (8-5, 3-2).
Tim Grantz had two hits for Mineral Ridge.
South Range 6, W. Reserve 2
BERLIN CENTER -- Steve Bensinger scattered six hits and struck out eight batters for the Raiders (5-5, 4-1).
Eugene Leson homered and drove in four runs. Josh Less, Ben Detwiler, Joe Marino and Isaac Melnick each had two hits.
For the Blue Devils, Ryan Pauken's two hits included a homer.
Ursuline 16, Chaney 1
YOUNGSTOWN -- Matt Yarab had three hits, including two triples, to lead the Irish.
Matt Tynal added a triple and single for Ursuline (10-4), while Andy Kopper doubled and Justin Markota singled twice.
Dave Patrick (3-0) allowed four hits and struck out six for the Irish.
Chaney is 2-11.
Canfield 13, Niles 1
CANFIELD -- Drew Turocy had two triples, a double and four RBIs for Canfield (8-5, 5-0) in a Metro Athletic Conference game.
Zach Guerrieri and Joe Rosko each had two hits. Rosko (4-0) struck out two and walked three, giving up one hit over five innings.
Salem 8, Howland 4
SALEM -- Jarin Heath tripled and Bill Ellis doubled for the Quakers (9-4, 1-4 MAC). Sean McKee had three hits and Ben Miller had two to drive in three runs.
For the Tigers (8-2, 2-2), Manoli Pahoulis doubled.
Hubbard 5, Newton Falls 4
HUBBARD -- Frank Rosile and A.J. Police each had three hits for the Eagles (7-2, 4-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Rosile drove in two runs and Police one.
For the Tigers (9-6, 2-4), Brad Blevins had three hits including a triple.
Champion 6, Girard 2
GIRARD -- State-ranked Champion scored three runs in the third inning in a TAC game.
Ryan Collins had two singles for Girard.
Maplewood 5, Mathews 4
CORTLAND -- Maplewood's Craig Clemson hit a one-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 10th to score Jared Patridge for the game-winner.
Clemson (4-1) also had two hits and pitched three innings of relief, striking out five, to pick up the win for the Rockets (6-3). Rockets starter Jake Abbott struck out a career-high 17 batters over the first seven innings.
Doug Wajda added two hits.
Matt Weymer had three hits for Mathews (7-3).
Youngstown Christian 7, Ledgemont 2
STRUTHERS -- Youngstown Christian pitcher Aaron Agresta (1-1) struck out 14 of the 31 batters he faced and walked one to earn the win.
Jared VanArsdale had three hits, including a triple for the Eagles (2-3). Nathaniel Setnick had two hits, including a triple.
Ledgemont is 0-7.
