JEWISH COMMUNITY Strickland to share news from Middle East visits

The Democrat met with several foreign leaders during his time there.
YOUNGSTOWN -- U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland of Lisbon, D-6th, will address the Jewish community about two recent congressional trips to Israel and Jordan.
Strickland's presentation will be at noon Monday at the Jewish Community Center. It will feature a light lunch and is open to the public.
Strickland met with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Jordanian King Abdullah bin Al-Hussain in November. He was on the Project Interchange/American Jewish Committee mission with four other members of the House.
The group also met with Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz and Labor Party leader Shimon Perez.
Last month, Strickland visited Poland and participated in wreath-laying ceremonies at the Auschwitz/Birkenau concentration camps, toured Warsaw and met with numerous Polish public officials. He was participating in a congressional mission sponsored by the North American Council of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews.
The luncheon is $3 and is sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation. There is no cost for anyone wishing to attend without lunch. Reservations can be made by calling the JCRC at (330) 746-3251, ext. 108.
