Job interviews could start next week.
WARREN -- Dale Frederick, who was city schools superintendent for three years in the 1990s, wants to come back.
Frederick is among the job applicants seeking to replace Superintendent Betty English this summer.
The 25 people who are interested in being Warren's new schools superintendent have backgrounds ranging from large to small schools, law and consulting. Most are from Ohio.
Frederick left Warren City Schools in summer 1997 and spent two years as superintendent of Pittsburgh schools before moving to Arizona and furthering his educational career there, including a year as adjunct professor at Northern Arizona University. He is now a consultant.
Decisions
Board of education members and an Ohio School Boards Association representative met Wednesday to try to trim the list of applicants to be interviewed, hoping to have the first five interviews next week. Board President Linda Metzendorf said they have much more work to do as they review all the names; likely there will be a few rounds of interviews.

A decision could be reached and an offer made May 2, and an offer to employ by mid-May. The board has agreed the next superintendent and family must live in the district. Also, the board would prefer a three-year contract.
Warren City Schools began a national search Feb. 9. English plans to step down when her contract expires in July. She has led the school system since 1999. She served as assistant superintendent for a short period before that.
The district has about 1,000 employees. English's salary was $97,501.
