MACOMB, Ill. -- In his first career start, Alex Douglas rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries, setting Western Illinois' freshman single-game rushing record as the Leathernecks defeated Quincy, 38-31, Saturday night.
Douglas broke Travis Glasford's freshman record of 166 rushing yards, set in 2002 against Sam Houston State, and also became the first freshman in Western's Division I era to score two rushing touchdowns in the same game.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Laurence Maroney had a 50-yard touchdown run and finished with 145 yards rushing to lead Minnesota.
Bryan Cupito, who completed passes to eight different receivers, threw for 155 yards and two TDs for the Gophers (4-0, 1-0) in the Big 10 opener for both teams.
Northwestern (1-3, 0-1) got a 97-yard kickoff return from Jeff Backes in the first quarter.

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Jamar Williams intercepted two passes and Jordan Hill recovered two fumbles in Arizona State's victory over mistake-prone Oregon State in the Pac-10 opener for both teams.
The Sun Devils' Emmanuel Franklin saved an Oregon State touchdown by knocking the ball loose from Oregon State's Joe Newton, then recovering the ball for a touchback -- a play that turned the game around late in the first half.
Hakim Hill, playing with a broken bone in his right forearm, scored on a 3-yard run and Andrew Walter threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Zach Miller for the Sun Devils (4-0, 1-0), off to their best start since going 11-0 in the 1996 regular season.
Oregon State (1-3, 0-1) lost for the 16th consecutive time at Arizona State.
Ball St. 41, W. Michigan 14
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Dante Ridgeway had nine catches for 217 yards and three touchdowns to lead Ball State in a Mid-American Conference game.
Ridgeway scored on passes of 44, 69 and 6 yards from Cole Stinson, who threw for 294 yards for the Cardinals (1-3, 1-0 MAC).
Ryan Cubit threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns for Western Michigan (1-3, 0-1), but was sacked four times.
Ridgeway, who broke the Ball State record for career receptions last week, caught two of his touchdown passes in less than five minutes of the fourth quarter to help the Cardinals pull away.
