Accident injures man
LISBON -- A Lisbon man was injured in a one-vehicle crash when he lost control of his pickup truck on a curve in Madison Township.
The Lisbon post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Richard Short, 36, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. No information on his condition was available this morning.
The patrol said Short was driving east on Applegate Road about 7 p.m. Sunday when his truck went off the road, struck a ditch, an embankment, then a tree. The crash remains under investigation, the patrol said.
Patrol nets arrests
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A joint patrol by the New Castle and Pennsylvania State Police on Saturday night resulted in several arrests.
Police said Michael McQueen, 32, of West Lincoln Avenue was arrested on drug charges and released on $2,000 bond.
Police said they also made one driving-under-the-influence arrest, gave five traffic citations and 17 written warnings, served one warrant and confiscated $565. An all-terrain vehicle was found and impounded pending further investigation. The patrol was assisted by a helicopter from the state police aviation unit.
Racist vandalism
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- City police say someone vandalized the front steps of Bible Way Church on North Crawford Avenue with white supremacist sayings.
Police said "white power," "KKK" and a swastika were painted on the steps. The vandalism was discovered at 11 a.m. Friday, police said.
Alarm foils entry
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Someone climbed through the air conditioning vent and other duct work at the Dollar General Store on West Washington Street, only to be turned away by an alarm.
Pennsylvania State Police said the motion alarm went off at 11:45 p.m. Saturday. They believe the burglar ran off after hearing the alarm. Nothing was missing, police said.
Free GED practice testsslated Friday and Oct. 7
CANFIELD -- Free practice GED tests will be offered from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center on North Palmyra Road and from 4 to 9 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Educational Resource Center at Southern Park Mall near Sears.
Test-takers must be at least 18 years, not enrolled in high school and have an Ohio driver's license or state identification card.
Those who pass the practice test will receive a fee waiver for the official GED test. For more information, call the MCCTC at (330) 729-4100.
