COLUMBUS -- Tony Sanneh headed a free kick to extend the Columbus Crew unbeaten streak to a single-season league record 14 games.
Sanneh's header went through the hands of United goalkeeper Nick Rimando in the 10th minute.
Columbus (11-5-10) clinched a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and home field advantage through the first round.
Wizards 1, Rapids 0
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Russian striker Igor Simutenkov scored the lone goal to lift Kansas City past Colorado.
Simutenkov scored on a give-and-go with teammate Josh Wolff in the 55th minute, just 49 seconds after entering the match.
The first-place Wizards extended their lead in the Western Conference, improving to 13-9-5 with 44 points, five more than Colorado (10-9-9).
MetroStars 2, Dallas 0
DALLAS -- John Wolyniec scored in the 30th minute and goalkeeper Jonny Walker recorded his fifth shutout of the year to help the MetroStars clinch a playoff spot.
Cornell Glen scored a breakaway goal in the final minutes of injury time for the MetroStars (11-10-6, 39 points).
The Burn (10-12-5, 35 points) began the day with a one-point lead over San Jose for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Amado Guevara had an assist to take over sole possession of the MLS scoring lead with 30 points.
