DALLAS MORNING NEWS
Will "Scooby-Doo 3" be told from the monsters' point of view?
The True Ghoul Hollywood Stories extra on the "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed" DVD and video makes a fun case for it. This minifeature tells of the tragic childhood of various villains, including The Cotton Candy Glob, whose frustrated desire to go to the circus fed his fixation with cotton candy.
But until a "Scooby-Doo 3" pops up on the boards, we'll just have to sate ourselves with "Scooby-Doo 2," the sequel that gives fans every goofy excess they came to expect and love from "Scooby-Doo: The Movie."
"Scooby-Doo 2" gets going when monsters seem to come to life after the monsters' costumes are stolen from a museum created in honor of the Mystery Inc. crew of Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and, of course, Scooby-Doo.
Does the gang solve the mystery? Natch, but not before the friends learn that each person on the team is important in his own way, that friendship is more important than fame and that the people who truly care about us want us to be ourselves.
Stealing the show
So while many may dismiss the "Scooby-Doo" franchise as junk, kids like the message, however spoofily told. The team, including Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and Linda Cardellini, are appealing, but Matthew Lillard steals the show as Scooby's friend Shaggy in an uncanny live-action visualization of the animated version.
More cool extras include a game, music videos and tips on how to dance like Scooby. You never know when that might come in handy.
