Rich Center plans for regional forum at YSU



YOUNGSTOWN -- The Rich Center for the Study and Treatment of Autism announced that the Ohio Autism Taskforce will have its regional forum from 3 to 5 and 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Youngstown State University's Kilcawley Center in the Chestnut Room.
The charge of the OAT is to investigate the rising incidence of autism, a developmental disability, in Ohio, and to present legislative public policy recommendations to the Ohio General Assembly and the governor to address gaps in the delivery of services to individuals with autism.
Parents, educators, practitioners, service providers and other interested parties are encouraged to attend and testify.
Testimony will be limited to the general topic of services for individuals with autism.
Written testimony is encouraged but not required.
George Backus, director of the Rich Center, and state Rep. Kenneth Carano of Austintown, D-59th, are OAT members.
The Rich Center, created in 1995, provides referral, treatment and support to families who have children with autism, and also provides educational programs for professionals and students who study and work with those who have the disability.
