WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Chris Edwards threw for 418 yards and six touchdowns, including two in overtime, as Washington & amp; Jefferson beat Bridgewater, Va., 55-48 on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Trailing 48-41 after Winston Young's 15-yard TD run for Bridgewater, Edwards hit Jacob Shields on a 25-yard TD pass in the first overtime. In the second overtime period, Edwards connected with Shields on a 2-yard TD pass for the win. Shields caught seven passes for 134 yards and three touchdowns.
In the fourth quarter, Edwards led the Presidents on two scoring drives to tie the game twice in the last 4:46 and send the game to overtime.
Bridgewater could have won the game but kept Washington & amp; Jefferson's last-minute drive in the fourth quarter alive with an untimely facemask penalty and two pass inference calls in the endzone in the final seconds of regulation.
Brandon Wakefield threw for 285 yards and two touchdowns for Bridgewater, including a 52-yard TD pass to Robert Matthews for a 41-34 lead with 1:19 to play in the fourth. Young ran for 79 yards and two touchdowns for Bridgewater.
Wooster 41, Aurora 34
WOOSTER, Ohio -- Tony Sutton rushed for 209 yards and five touchdowns to lead Wooster to a victory over Aurora in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Sutton's 41-yard touchdown run with 4:04 left broke a 27-27 tie, and his 31-yard run 90 seconds later sealed the game for Wooster (11-0). He also had TD runs of 1, 37 and 10 yards and averaged 7.5 yards on his 28 carries.
Daniel Whalen ran for 142 yards on 16 carries for Aurora (6-5), including a 65-yard with 4:47 left in the game that tied the game.
Aurora quarterback Andrew Hornung was 19-of-31 passing for 215 yards and three touchdowns and an interception. Rob Bieritz caught eight passes for 110 yards, including two touchdowns.
Wooster quarterback Justin Schafer was 10-of-19 passing for 129 yards and an interception.
