HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL Avon Lake sweeps player honors on NE Lakes All-District teams



COLUMBUS (AP) -- Poll champion Avon Lake took the top individual offensive and defensive honors in Division II on the 2004 Associated Press Northeastern Lakes All-District football teams announced Tuesday.
Bobby Doyle, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound running back, was tabbed as the top offensive player based on the balloting of a media panel from the district. His teammate, 6-3, 243-pound lineman Stephen Zywotek, was selected as the defensive player of the year.
Also honored in Division II was Normany's Rich Turner, the coach of the year.
The other offensive players of the year in the district include: lineman Alex Boone of Lakewood St. Edward and Solon running back Brandon Shimits in Division I; Mike Beatty of Chardon Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (III); Chagrin Falls running back Josh Menendez (IV); running back Logan Kaleta of Kirtland (V); and Cuyahoga Heights quarterback Jeremy Smith (VI).
Also chosen as the top defenders were: linebackers Nick Simon of Shaker Heights and Freddie Lenix of Cleveland Glenville (I); Benedictine back Joe Cigas (III); linebacker Tom LaRosa of Avon (IV); linebackers Kurth Schnittger of Lutheran West and Gilmour Academy's Eric Tupta (V); and back Aaron Flythe of Richmond Heights (VI).
Joining Turner as winners of the coaching awards were: Glenville's Ted Ginn Sr. (I); Dan Thorpe of Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (III); Avon's Lee Powell and Brookside's Dan Cairns (IV); Gilmour Academy's Bob Spicer and Mark Kobylinski of Cleveland Central Catholic (V); and Richmond Heights' P.J. Insana (VI).
