Geneva 73, Mount Vernon Nazarene 59
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Geneva rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat Mount Vernon Nazarene, 73-59, in women's college basketball Tuesday night. The Golden Tornadoes (1-0) trailed 38-26 at the intermission, but rallied behind Ali Cananzi, who sank five 3-pointers in the second half and finished with 17 points. Geneva's Jen Rawding scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Megan Gallagher added 15 points and a team-high six assists. The Golden Tornadoes took their first lead of the game, 42-41, with 13:34 remaining. After a Mount Vernon Nazarene basket, Geneva went on an 11-0 run. Mount Vernon Nazarene (2-3) got 16 points from Erin Arnett and 11 from Amy Sebastian.
Gannon 68, Slippery Rock 55
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Christina Jackson had team highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Gannon in the season opener for both teams. Jen Gwin added 14 points and 11 assists, and Emily Thornbury scored 11 points for Gannon, which extended a 33-31 halftime lead despite shooting just 40 percent (25-of-62) from the field. Gannon did hold a 41-32 edge in rebounds and forced 21 Rocket turnovers. Erin Frankovich scored 21 points, shooting a perfect 9-for-9 from the field, and added 10 rebounds to lead Slippery Rock in both categories. Stacey Green scored 19 points for the Rockets, and Amber McFeely had nine assists.
Malone 87, St. Vincent 53
CANTON -- Nikki Parson led four players in double figures as the Pioneers cruised to their third win. Parson scored 17 points, while Michelle Ling added 16, Abbey Moore 12 and Erica Mishler 11 for the Pioneers (3-2). Shauna Masenbrink had nine rebounds to lead Malone. Kristin Myers had 11 points and Kristen Darrow added 10 for St. Vincent (0-5). Malone led 48-20 at halftime.
