Company offers tips for recent graduates
NEW YORK -- They'll begin arriving this summer and fall, the fresh university graduates ready to take the business world by storm.
But the classroom and the corporation are vastly different animals, and so the folks at Dale Carnegie Training, a Hauppauge, N.Y.-based management training company, have a few tips for the transition.
UEmbrace organization: All-night cram sessions don't work as well in business, where focused preparation and time management are key to success. Plus, being organized will help you reduce the stress endemic to most jobs.
UBe active: You're the new kid on the block, probably the one with the least experience. Be eager to learn and anticipate creative ways to contribute before being asked to tackle some tasks.
UExpect the unexpected: Don't freak when confronted with new challenges. The boss wants to see that you were a worthy investment.
UBe positive: Your attitude in the workplace is a defining trait the company will use to judge your success or failure. "Showing signs of panic or negativity early leave a poor impression on management," said Peter Handal, the company's president and CEO.
