Mount Union
Clay Sanders, a junior point guard for the men's basketball team from The Rayen School, ranked No. 2 in assists in the Ohio Athletic Conference this season. Sanders averaged 4.93 assists per game (138 in 28 games) to finish behind Tom Harrington of Baldwin-Wallace College (5.35 on 139 in 26 games). Sanders averaged 4.1 points and made 54.9 percent of his shots from the field (39-for-71), to help Mount Union to an 18-10 record, including 11-7 in the OAC, and runner-up in the OAC Tournament behind John Carroll.
Eric Fender (Poland High) also contributed to Mount Union's season in a reserve role. Fender, a freshman, shot 52.9 percent from the field on 9-for-17, including 57.1 percent from 3-point range (8-for-14), and averaged 2.2 points.
Westminster
The women's swimming program is one of 62 Division III teams in the nation to be named an All-Academic Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the Fall 2003 semester. The Titans posted a team grade point average of 3.146.
Also, freshman Anthony Cunningham was named Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) pitcher of the week and Division III Southern pitcher of the week by the Eastern College Athletic Conference. He also earned honorable mention recognition as one of three finalists for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America Division III national pitcher of the week award. Cunningham, a 6-foot left-hander, fired a nine-inning complete game shutout for the Titans in his first collegiate start, a 5-0 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) College in Homestead, Fla. He allowed just three hits with no walks while striking out six. This season, Cunningham has made five appearances (one start, four in relief) and has not allowed an earned run in 132/3 innings. He has 11 strikeouts.
