Officer's comments
Detective Sgt. Delphine Baldwin-Casey said she thinks the programs may be beneficial to all women.
"I'd like to think of this workshop as both prevention for those who have not yet been affected, and intervention for those who have been victims before," Baldwin-Casey said.
A 25-year police department veteran, Baldwin-Casey has handled thousands of cases since the YPD Crisis Intervention Unit opened in 1996.
In 2003, she handled 2,161 domestic-violence-related cases, which included elder abuse crimes, sexual assault and stalking.
This number was down from 2,816 cases in 2002, which she credits to heightened awareness.
