TRUMBULL COUNTY Society considers library move

Officials are concerned about structural damage to the historic home.
WARREN -- The Trumbull County Historical Society is contemplating moving its library from the second floor of the historic John Stark Edwards House to a modest, 1950s home next door.
The society's board of directors is studying building modifications that would be necessary to move the library to the single-story Hickman House, including the possible addition of book shelves and removal of an interior wall.
"They just want to make sure the library can be used by people," said Lois Wynkoop, a member of the board. "They want to make it more accessible."
The board is also concerned that allowing the heavy filing cabinets to remain on the second floor of the Edwards house could result in structural damage to the 1807 home.
The house also contains the historical society museum, open weekends from 1 to 4 p.m. from May to November.
If the library is moved, the room will be used for additional display space, Wynkoop said.
Seeking donations
As part of the library relocation, the historical society may look at redefining the scope and focus of its collection, she said. The society continues to seek donations for the collection.
Donations are also being accepted for the society's annual yard sale, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 9 and 10 at the Edwards House.
Donated antiques, books, housewares and other items can be dropped off at the house any weekend between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
