NATIONAL LEAGUE
Phillies 14, Expos 6
PHILADELPHIA -- David Bell hit for the cycle and drove in a career-high six runs. Bell doubled in the second, homered in the fourth, singled in the sixth and hit a controversial triple in the seventh inning to complete the feat also accomplished by his grandfather, Gus Bell, who hit for the cycle for Pittsburgh on June 4, 1951. Bell drove a 2-2 pitch off Rocky Biddle to left-center that appeared to deflect off the outreached hands of a fan in the first row. The ball caromed toward center field and away from Montreal's Brad Wilkerson, who along with Montreal manager Frank Robinson, protested the call for several minutes. The umpires convened and allowed the three-base hit to stand. Kevin Millwood (6-5) won despite allowing three home runs.
Padres 10, Diamondbacks 5
PHOENIX -- Brian Giles and Humberto Quintero homered to help David Wells win for the first time in almost two months. Mark Loretta had four of San Diego's season high-tying 17 hits, and the Padres sent the Diamondbacks to their franchise-record 10th straight loss -- longest in the majors this season. Wells (3-5) allowed eight hits, walked one and struck out six in 5 1/3 innings to win for the first time since May 5.
Braves 6, Marlins 1
ATLANTA -- John Thomson won for the first time in nearly a month and J.D. Drew homered to help Atlanta win a game delayed almost 3 1/2 hours by rain. Thomson (6-6) allowed only three hits in six innings to bounce back from four straight bad starts. Brad Penny (7-6) gave up five runs on nine hits in five innings for Florida.
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Devil Rays 10, Blue Jays 2
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Victor Zambrano pitched six innings to win his fifth straight decision as Tampa Bay won for the 16th time in 18 games. Geoff Blum and Jose Cruz Jr. homered in support of Zambrano (8-4), who hasn't lost in nine starts since May 15. Roy Halladay (6-5) allowed seven runs on eight hits in five innings -- his shortest outing of the season.
Orioles 10, Royals 1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- David Newhan had three hits, including a two-run homer, and Baltimore snapped a seven-game road losing streak. Rookie left-hander Erik Bedard (3-2) pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings for the Orioles, who won for just the second time in 11 road games. He gave up five hits, struck out three and walked one. Brian Roberts, Miguel Tejada and Javy Lopez each drove in two runs for Baltimore. The Royals dropped to a season-low 17 games under .500, the worst in the league.Rangers 8, Mariners 5
SEATTLE -- Hank Blalock hit two of Texas' five homers. Blalock also had a double and three RBIs, and Alfonso Soriano, Mark Teixeira and Kevin Mench each homered for the Rangers, who beat Seattle for the seventh straight time this season and eighth of 10 overall. A day after trading Freddy Garcia to Chicago, the Mariners gave up five homers to Texas for the second time this season. Ryan Franklin (3-6) allowed four.
