Youngstown pastor to lead national conference
A local religious leader will preside over the 89th Annual Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Inc. Summer Convention this week in Chicago.
Bishop Norman L. Wagner, the presiding prelate of the 1.5 million member denomination, is the pastor and Chief Executive Officer of Calvary Ministries International and its 2,500-member congregation in Youngstown. Wagner also is the diocesan bishop of the European Council of Nations.
The annual meeting of the Pentecostal Assemblies begins today and continues through next Saturday at Chicago's McCormick Place with a full slate of speakers from churches throughout the United States. Speakers will include Bishop Noel Jones, pastor of the City of Refuge Church in Gardena, Calif.; Carolyn Showell, founder of Transformed Inc., a Christian counseling practice and support service agency; and Bishop Larry Trotter, pastor of Sweet Holy Spirit Church, Chicago, Ill.
"The P.A.W. selected speakers that are anointed to bring a timely, relevant word to today's generation," Wagner said, "Our attendees are guaranteed to leave our convention equipped with the tools needed to go forth and spread the Gospel of Christ to the masses."
In addition to the programs, the convention's participants will embark on several community outreach programs in the Chicago area. They will visit the Cook County Jail twice, a work release center, Hope House and a juvenile detention center. They also will host a career day.
The convention's theme is "A Glimpse of Glory: The Promises of Pentecost." It also will feature seminars, workshops and worship.
