WNBA Liberty having six home games shifted to Radio City Music Hall

KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
PHILADELPHIA -- Home-court advantage became home-stage advantage for the New York Liberty on Saturday night, when the WNBA team transformed Radio City Music Hall from an entertainment showplace into a basketball arena.
The Liberty have been forced to relocate from their much-larger home at Madison Square Garden, which is undergoing preparations for the Republican Party's political convention late next month.
The venue was chosen for the six home games by MSG because it owns the Garden and Radio City, thus reducing costs.
"Economics is economics," Liberty general manager Carol Blazejowski said at a practice session Thursday in the team's adopted home.
Attendance capacity, however, was lowered from 19,000 in the Garden to just under 6,000, so look for asterisks to soon start appearing next to WNBA attendance comparison figures between last season and this one.
Until the basketball floor was moved from the Garden to Radio City early last week, the only previous sporting event held at the historic facility was boxing.
Although the night was billed for sports, it didn't stop officials from offering some of the regular Radio City enticements, such as a halftime performance by the world-famous Rockettes chorus line, who appear in the annual Christmas Spectacular and other events.
