'ROCK 'N ROLL CRUISE' Car show, entertainment to fill downtown Sharon

Saturday, July 24, 2004

A car show and live musical entertainment highlight the day.
SHARON, Pa. -- The second annual downtown Sharon "Rock 'N Roll Cruise" is set for Aug. 7.
State Street, the main business thoroughfare, will be closed to vehicular traffic to make way for a car show and performance stage for the 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. event.
The cruise is an effort to draw people to the downtown business district, and last year's event drew hundreds.
This year's car show is being organized by the Shenango Valley Region Antique Automobile Club of America and the Shenango Valley Corvette Club.
All cars and participants are welcome. Registration will be held in the Sharon City Centre parking lot at West State Street and Water Avenue.
The performance stage will be set up in front of the Vocal Group Hall of Fame at 98 E. State St., which will set up a controlled-access beer garden in the stage area.
"Fins to the Left," a Jimmy Buffet tribute group, will perform from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by the "2nd Avenue Project" from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Gary James Pirrung, guitarist and vocalist, will perform on the third-floor stage of the Vocal Group Hall of Fame from 7 to 9 p.m., and admission to the hall will be free.
Downtown restaurants and food vendors set up along the street will have refreshments available.
Street closing
Police said State Street will be closed from Water Avenue on the east to Irvine Avenue on the west beginning at 9 a.m. although north- and southbound traffic on Water Avenue will be permitted to cross State Street.
The Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce, the city of Sharon, Mercer County CareerLink, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and more than a dozen other downtown businesses and institutions are sponsoring the event.
