Wharmby Sports wins NABF opener, 6-2

Livi Steel was defeated, 9-3.
STRUTHERS -- Wharmby Sports opened regional National Amateur Baseball Federation (NABF) tournament action with a 6-2 victory over the ICBA Cardinals of Ontario, Canada Thursday at Cene Park.
Key hitting and pitching were the difference in the first round of the double elimination event.
Wharmby's will now face Diamond Dog Bulldogs on Cene 1 at 8 p.m. today.
The first run of the game came on a two out single by John Warren in the top off the second inning scoring Jessie Alfreno, who had also singled.
Wharmby then scored again in the top of the Leading off Adam Wigley singled and advanced on a passed ball and scored on a two-out single by Cody Dillon.
After the Cardinals scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth, Wharmby scored two times in the fifth.
A one out error put a runner on second, then a single by Billy Herman scored one run. A triple by Wigley plated Herman.
More runs
Wharmby added to its lead in the sixth. A lead off double by Alfreno, then after a error put runners on second and third, Phillip Williamson drove both home with a single.
Lamport worked five innings. He allowed no hits for the first three and one third, and the only run he gave up was unearned. Lamport struck out five and walked four.
Wigley had three hits, including a triple and a double. Herman and Alfreno had two hits apiece for Wharmby.
Mike Poll had a pair of singles for the Cardinals.
Huntington 9, Livi Steel 3
The Huntington Hounds used a 12-hit attack to defeat Livi.
Adam Yeager had three hits. Steve Blevens and Blake Rogers added two hits each.
Blevins drove in three runs in support of the six-inning pitching performance of Mike Hill, who allowed just two earned runs on seven hits. He had three strikeouts.
Chad Baker had a double and a triple for Livi Steel. Mike Busin had three hits and Steve Orlosky two. Mark Tanner, in relief, had six strikeouts in 22/3 innings of work, allowing two unearned runs on three hits.
In another game the Diamond Dog Bulldogs, from Pennsylvania, shut out the Ohio Yankees 13-0.

The championship game was scheduled for today at 11:30 a.m., between Cincinnati Gators and Cleveland PB Baseball.
Both of those teams will advance to the regional at Battle Creek, Mich., along with Akron Boys of Summer. Going to the regional in Amelia will be Wharmby Sports, JL Clevelanders, Cleveland Panthers, Jackson Polar Bears and Andy's 9ers.
