Fire investigation
HOWLAND -- Firefighters are investigating a blaze that caused $125,000 damage to a home at 8102 Castle Rock N.E.
The fire broke out around 12:11 a.m. in a rear bedroom of the one-story wood-frame home, a fire department press release states. The residents of the home were able to escape without injury, the release states.
It further notes that an electrical service line to the house was found lying in the yard. Ohio Edison officials were contacted and secured the lines.
Fire hydrant work
HOWLAND -- The Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer's Department will flow-test and flush fire hydrants in the Howland Township area from Monday to Friday.
The work is in conjunction with the Howland Township Fire Department.
Possible low pressure and discolored water are normal.
Shotguns stolen
NILES -- A Woodglen Avenue said he discovered three shotguns missing from his home.
The man, who had been away, said the break-in occurred sometime between July 12 and Wednesday.
He found the front door damaged, and two 20-gauge shotguns and one 12-gauge shotgun missing when he checked the home.
Car strikes boy, 11
NILES -- An 11-year-old boy was listed in stable condition this morning after an accident with a car while he was riding his bike.
According to reports, Thor A. Guillard of McKinley Avenue was riding his bike around 3:50 p.m. Wednesday when he failed to stop for traffic and pulled into the path of a vehicle driven by a 34-year-old Robbins Avenue man who drove from McKinley onto Summit Street. The boy hit the hood of the car, and was on top of it for about 70 feet before he was thrown from the vehicle.
Guillard was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center by Rural Metro Ambulance and was admitted to the pediatrics ward. No charges have been filed in the accident, which remains under investigation.
Woman is taken home
CAMPBELL -- A woman who was last seen July 8 in Andover was found in Campbell by a concerned citizen, who took her home Wednesday, Andover police said.
Debra Carr-Tuckish, 38, was referred to Campbell police for follow-up. Andover police said her car was stolen and she had been held against her will.
Police on duty this morning had no more information on the case.
Toddler found wandering
WARREN -- A 2-year-old boy slipped out of his house and was discovered by police in the street near Red Fox Run at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, reports say.
The child was brought to the station. His mother called police at 9:15 a.m. to look for the boy, reports say.
Trumbull County Children's Services is reviewing the case.
Drug raid at house
ASHTABULA -- Local and state officials raided a home on Day Road in New Lyme Township and confiscated 800 pounds of processed marijuana and $76,000 in cash.
The Trumbull Geauga Ashtabula Law Enforcement Task Force, Cleveland Drug Enforcement Administration and the state Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation raided the home Wednesday.
Officials say the raid will make a "significant impact" on the flow of marijuana in northeast Ohio.
Charges are expected to be filed today in Eastern District Court, Ashtabula County, against six people, including the man who lived at the home.
Marijuana farm sentencing
YOUNGSTOWN -- Pamela Woodward, 47, of Granada Avenue was sentenced Wednesday afternoon in Cleveland federal court to two years in prison for her part in a marijuana farm that once filled a downtown warehouse.
U.S. District Judge James S. Gwin also ordered that Woodward, originally from England, be deported once out of prison.
All six defendants indicted in March were charged with conspiracy to cultivate with intent to distribute marijuana and cultivating marijuana (in excess of 1,000 plants). Three remain to be sentenced.
Woodward's black vehicle was seen by Drug Enforcement Administration agents almost daily during surveillance over three months, entering the warehouse at 814 Marshall St. using a remote garage door opener.
