PHARMACISTS
Johns Hopkins residency
Michelle C. Caruso, a 1997 valedictorian of Austintown Fitch High school, graduated magna cum laude from Ohio State University with a doctor of pharmacy degree.
At graduation, she received the Anne L. Burns Award for outstanding professionalism, leadership and service to the college of pharmacy.
She is the daughter of George and Bernice Caruso of Austintown. Dr. Caruso has accepted a position as a pharmacy practice resident with Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Ohio State degree
Michael Vito Restaino, a 1994 graduate of Girard High School, has received his doctor of pharmacy degree magna cum laude from Ohio State University.
He earned his bachelor's degree in pharmacy from OSU in 1999. He is the son of Vito and Rita Restaino of Girard and is currently working at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
DOCTORS
Cincinnati residency
Kara S. Hughan has received her doctor of medicine degree from Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton.
Dr. Hughan is married to Thomas L. Hughan III and is the daughter of William and Katherine Sovik of Boardman.
She is a 1993 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and obtained a bachelor's degree in nutrition in 1997 from Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pa.
She accepted a pre-doctoral IRTA Fellowship in pediatrics at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. For three years, she conducted clinical research in the fields of obesity and endocrinology and her work was published in The New England Journal of Medicine. Concurrently, she earned a master of health science degree in clinical research from Duke University School of Medicine.
While pursuing her medical degree at Wright State, she traveled throughout Guatemala to provide medical and health-care services to needy children. She also served as her class secretary for two years.
Dr. Hughan was selected to complete her pediatric residency training at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
MCO graduates
Two Mahoning Valley people recently received their doctor of medicine degree from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. They are Shaden Mohammad of Warren and Annique (Kozak) Hogan of Youngstown.
A 1998 graduate of Case Western Reserve University, Dr. Mohammad earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1998 from Case Western Reserve University. She graduated from Howland High School in 1994.
She will begin residency training in radiology at Medical College of Ohio. While at MCO, she was the recipient of the outstanding student in radiology award.
Dr. Hogan, a 1996 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, earned her bachelor's degree in biology from John Carroll University.
She will begin residency training in pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
OPTOMETRIST
James Bozic, son of Mathew and Elizabeth Bozic of Campbell, is a cum laude graduate of Ohio State University's College of Optometry.
While at Ohio State, he was a member of the American Optometry Student Association, Epsilon Psi Epsilon Optometry Fraternity, Beta Sigma Kappa Honorary Society and the Sports Vision Club.
Dr. Bozic began his practice this month at Vision World Inc. in Mentor.
