Girard High to honorsenior wrestlers
GIRARD -- The Girard High School Wrestling Senior Night will be held Feb. 4 at 6:45 p.m., as the Indians play host to Jackson-Milton.
The varsity match will begin at 7 p.m., preceded by the junior high match at 5:30 p.m.
Girard has two senior wrestlers, Gary Chaney and Dan Martini, who have combined for over 130 varsity wins, with 65 of those coming by pins.
Chaney and Martini will be introduced and honored in a ceremony with family, friends and fans preceding the varsity match at about 6:45 p.m.
Warren Harding girlsgame is Wednesday
WARREN -- The Warren G. Harding-Kent Roosevelt girls basketball game, postponed from Monday, will be played Wednesday. The junior varsity game will begin at 6 p.m. at Warren Harding High.
Bristol moves two games
BRISTOLVILLE -- Bristol High announced new dates for two basketball games which were postponed.
The Bristol boys team will play at Badger on Feb. 18, with the junior varsity game at 6 p.m.
Bristol's girls team will play host to Badger Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.
Boardman wins
KITTANING, Pa. -- Shawn Fulks scored twice and Jim Pipoly added a goal and three assists as the Boardman ice hockey club beat Butler, Pa. 6-4.
Bob Walla had a goal and two assists and Dave Walker and Bob Debiec each scored for the Spartans.
Also, Zack Skook scored with 13 seconds remaining to give Boardman a 5-4 victory over Wheeling (W. Va.) Linsly.
Skook and Walla had two goals apiece for Boardman, while Pat Rafeedie also scored.
Juan Salinas advancedto Gloves tournament
DETROIT, Mich. -- Youngstown's Juan Salinas, representing Ohio in the Region 2 Silver Gloves Championships, advanced to the National Tournament in February with a victory in the 90-pound class.
The 11-year-old Junior Olympian from Lane Avenue is trained by Jack Loew at the Southside Boxing Club.
After winning the state 90-pound Silver Gloves title in December, Salinas fought for the regional championship against Indiana champion Lexie Keshick.
Salinas staggered Keshick with a right cross in round one that had the referee give the Indiana boxer a standing eight count. Salinas kept after his opponent and tagged him with a right uppercut and a left hook in the round two which had the referee step in and stop the contest.
Salinas (9-2) will travel to Olathe, Kan., for the National Championship Silver Gloves Tournament, Feb. 5-7.

Raiders hire Turner
ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Norv Turner was hired as the Oakland Raiders' coach. Turner coached the Washington Redskins from 1994-2000. He has been the Miami Dolphins' offensive coordinator the past two seasons.
Turner replaces Bill Callahan, fired after two seasons and since hired by Nebraska.
Nets fire coach
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Byron Scott was fired as coach of the New Jersey Nets, the team he led to the NBA Finals the past two seasons.
Assistant coach Lawrence Frank will take over on an interim basis and will stay at least through the end of the season, team president Rod Thorn said. The Nets also hired Brian Hill as an assistant coach.
Pat Summitt getscontract extension
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Pat Summitt will keep coaching at Tennessee for at least four more seasons.
Summitt's new contract extension, calls for an annual salary of $824,500, an increase of $74,500 from her previous deal.
Summitt has won six national titles and is in her 30th season as coach of the Vols.
Swoopes added
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Two-time Olympic gold medalist Sheryl Swoopes was added to the roster for the U.S. women's basketball team that will compete at this year's Athens Games.
Swoopes, who played for U.S. teams that won gold in 1996 and 2000, joins a roster that already includes former Olympians Lisa Leslie and Dawn Staley.
Saban adds Williams
BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU football coach Nick Saban hired Bobby Williams, who replaced him as coach at Michigan State, as an assistant.
Williams, who was fired by Michigan State during the 2002 season, was wide receivers coach with the Detroit Lions last year.
He coached under Saban for five years at Michigan State and then succeeded him in 1999 when Saban left to take over at LSU.
Lopez top choiceas Solheim captain
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Nancy Lopez was a unanimous selection as the U.S. captain for the 2005 Solheim Cup matches.
She played in the first Solheim Cup in 1990, but never made another team. A Hall of Famer with 48 victories, she stopped playing a full schedule two years ago.
The 2005 matches against a European side will be played Sept. 9-11 at Crooked Stick in Carmel, Ind.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- An 83-year-old man threw 30 of a possible 36 strikes to become the oldest man in the United States to bowl an 800-plus series.
Fran Lasee, of De Pere, Wis., bowled an 834 in the Aurora BayCare Senior Classic at Willow Creek Lanes last week. Lasee, who turned 83 on Dec. 18, bowled three games of 279, 290 and 265.
