Second half run guides Allegheny past Denison



Bethany rallied from an 11-0 deficit to beat Washington and Jefferson.
GRANVILLE -- Matt Magnusen scored 24 points and had eight steals to lead the Allegheny College men's basketball team to a 91-76 win over Denison on Saturday.
Allegheny (6-10, 3-5 North Coast Athletic Conference) had a 13-2 run early in the second half to take a 59-49 lead with 13:37 to play. The Gators never trailed after that, leading by as many as 18.
Matt Majzlik finished with 23 points, and Billy Dungee was 3-of-4 from 3-point range and added 11 for Allegheny.
Denison (4-13, 2-6) was led by Tony Julian, who scored 23 points. Danny Hodgkinson added 20 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Big Red led 39-37 at the half.
Bethany 90, Wash. & amp; Jeff. 64
BETHANY, W. Va. -- After falling behind 11-0 to start the game, Bethany came back and dominated the rest of the game, finishing on a 90-53 run.
It was the sixth straight win for the Bison (12-4, 3-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference).
Jim Deep scored 15 points for Bethany.
Chris Houser had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Presidents (7-10, 1-2).
Wittenberg 91, Hiram 49
SPRINGFIELD -- Kenny Brady led five double-figure scorers with 15 points for Wittenberg (14-3, 8-0 NCAC).
Rod Emmons, Danny Brywczynski, Peter Walker and Billy Bowen scored 11, 11, 11 and 10 points respectively for the winners.
Wittenberg used 15 players with 10 seeing 11 minutes of action or more.
Hiram (4-13, 2-6) fell behind 53-25 at intermission and was led by A. J. White with 14 points. Carlton Dean added 12 points.
The win was Wittenberg coach Bill Brown's 300th career victory. It was his 300th game at Wittenberg, where he has a 240-60 record.
Lake Erie 57, PS-Altoona 56
PAINESVILLE -- Jajeen Harris had 12 points and Trevor Replogle scored 10 points to pace the Storm (7-12, 3-3 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conf.).
Chaney High graduate Josh Smith added four points and eight rebounds for Lake Erie.
Altoona fell to 3-12, 0-5.
Mount Union 85, Otterbein 82, OT
WESTERVILLE -- Chris Blakely scored 21 points, including the tying basket at the end of regulation and the go-ahead free throws in overtime to lead Mount Union.
Blakely's layup tied it 76-all with nine seconds left in regulation. He scored the first two points of overtime on two free throws, giving the Purple Raiders (12-5, 7-3 Ohio Conference) the lead for good 78-76.
Brad Gerard added 16 points and Curtis Stevens and Kyle Karpinski each scored 12 for Mount Union.
DeQuan Owens led six Otterbein (13-4, 7-3) players in double figures with 16 points. Scott Hadley had 14 points and 12 rebounds, Phil Susi had 11 points and Tony Borghese, Aaron Minister and Tyler Ousley all scored 10.
