GIRLS BASKETBALL Balanced Rayen trounces Wilson



Amber Bland scored 30 points to lead Boardman to a Federal League win.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kenysha Tennant, Taniesha Holland and Taryn Perkins scored 18, 15 and 15 points respectively to help the Rayen girls basketball team defeat Wilson 78-28 in a City Series game Saturday.
The Tigers (7-7, 4-0) used a 16-point second quarter to seize a 38-16 lead at the half. Kesha Letlow scored 15 points for Wilson (2-12, 0-5).
Boardman 60, Canton Glenoak 31
BOARDMAN -- Boardman senior forward Amber Bland scored 30 points as the Spartans took a 22-10 halftime lead en route to a Federal League victory.
Emily Hays added 14 points and Jessica Moore had eight for the Spartans (13-0, 6-0).
Heather Phillips scored eight points to lead the Golden Eagles (5-9, 1-5).
Canfield 58, Howland 34
HOWLAND -- Corey Hoffman had 21 points and seven rebounds as Canfield took a 30-11 halftime lead to pull away in a Metro Athletic Conference game.
Emily Wollet added 17 points for the Cardinals (10-4, 6-1), who are one game back from Salem in the league standings.
Corlyn Hanshaw had 12 points and seven rebounds for Howland (5-7, 2-4).
Poland 59, Struthers 34
STRUTHERS -- Steffi Graf and Alex Rokicki each scored 16 points and each made four 3-pointers for the Bulldogs (9-3, 5-2 Metro Athletic Conference).
Allison Ginnetti led the Wildcats (3-10, 1-6) with 19 points.
Niles 59, Campbell 27
CAMPBELL -- Stacia Ray scored 28 points and hit eight 3-pointers along the way for the Red Dragons (7-5).
Niles led 20-2 after one quarter and finished the game with a 20-point fourth frame.
Stephanie Parish also scored 10 points for the Dragons.
Salem 67, Alliance 31
SALEM -- Sarah Hamilton scored 16 points while Alyson Cotter had 12 for Salem, which has won 13 straight -- the second longest streak in school history. The record is 19, set in 1979-80.
Renee Farina had nine points and six steals, Lizzie Jesko had nine points and Sarah Hamilton had seven rebounds. Lauren Teal had nine points, four blocks and eight rebounds. She has 500 career rebounds.
Tot Ousley had nine points and Jan Kehres eight and five rebounds for Alliance (4-10, 0-7).
Girard 52, Badger 40
KINSMAN -- Cachet Murray scored 20 points as Girard used a 31-17 halftime advantage to take control.
Justine Christopher and Angela Raggazine each added seven points for Girard (12-1).
Christine Miller had 15 points and three assists for Badger (6-8), while Becca McMenamin had 10 points and Samantha Bonar had seven rebounds.
Warren JFK 43, East Palestine 34
WARREN -- Aarika Knepp's 24 points led the Eagles (7-5) in a second-half rally. JFK outscored the Bulldogs 13-4 in the third quarter to seize control.
Ashley Ehrenberg led East Palestine (4-8) with 10 points.
West Branch 57, Canton South 28
CANTON -- Tori Arndt scored 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Warriors (13-1, 10-0 Northeast Buckeye Conference).
Stacy Braden netted 16 points while Ashley Armstrong had 13 points and six assists.
