BOYS BASKETBALL Irish hold off Massillon in final seconds

YOUNGSTOWN -- Branndon Braxton hit two key free throws to give the Ursuline High boys basketball team a 52-48 lead in the closing seconds as Irish held off visiting Massillon Washington, 52-50, in a non-league boys basketball game on Saturday.
The Irish (5-8) made 10 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Braxton had 17 points and 17 rebounds for Ursuline, which outrebounded the Tigers 34-20. Brett Neely added 12 points.
Billy Relford scored 29 points -- 13 in the fourth quarter -- for the Tigers (6-7), while Adam Gerber added seven points and 10 rebounds.
Rayen 52, Wilson 41
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dominic Crosby scored 18 points as the Rayen High boys basketball team outscored Wilson 17-9 in the fourth quarter in a City Series game.
Marcell Finkley points for the Tigers (3-9, 2-2), including five in the last quarter, while Dominic Crosby and Brandon Crosby each added four to aid the late surge.
Deon Elliot chipped in with nine points for Rayen, which replaced Wilson in second place in the City Series behind Canton Timken (3-0).
Bert Pritchard and Walter Duncan scored 10 points each for Wilson (3-9, 2-3), while Chauncey Whitlow had nine.
Poland 80, Struthers 47
STRUTHERS -- Junior guard Chad Fender scored 15 points to lead Poland in a Metro Athletic Conference game.
Jim Shurilla had 13 points and Dan Bertolini added 10 for the Bulldogs (9-3, 6-0), who took a 36-22 halftime lead.
Jose Martinez scored 18 to lead Struthers (3-10, 1-6).
Campbell 62, South Range 39
NORTH LIMA -- A big second half carried Campbell.
The Red Devils led just 31-26 at the half but then outscored the Raiders 31-13 in the final 16 minutes.
Four players scored in double figures for the Devils (9-5), who have won five of their last six outings.
Chris Melnik had 13 points, Teyon Harris hit for 11 and Terrance Phillips and Darris Johnson each had 10 points.
Harris scored eight points in the third quarter when Campbell took a 44-31 lead.
Brian Crawford led the Raiders (2-8) with nine points.
Newton Falls 49, Hubbard 40
NEWTON FALLS -- Andrew Grunder and Kirby Spahlinger each scored 10 points for the Tigers (7-4, 3-2 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Chad Rankin contributed nine points.
Jeff Jablonski and Russell Hawkins led the Eagles (4-6, 1-4) with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Girard 70, Champion 65
CHAMPION -- Marc Williams fired in 29 points while Nick Canterino had 23 to spark Girard, which outscored Champion, 24-16, in the final quarter.
Williams sank three 3-point goals for the Indians (4-6, 2-3).
Caleb Pagley had 12 points to lead Champion (0-10, 0-5), while Nic Wildman and Mark Jackson added 11 apiece and Jake Gross nine.
United 67, East Canton 60
EAST CANTON -- Dale Woolf scored 16 points and Corey Manfull added 14 as United outscored East Canton 21-5 in the first quarter to take control.
D'Andrew Soltis had 10 points and Ben Paumier added five rebounds for United (9-1).
Matt Gooch scored 17 points to lead East Canton (5-7).
Kennedy Catholic 52,Warren JFK 45
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Sharron Summerville scored 18 points while Brandon Mirizio had six of his 12 points in the final quarter, as Kennedy Catholic came from behind to defeat Warren JFK.
Kennedy Catholic outscored JFK in the last quarter, 21-13.
David Jackson chipped in with 10 rebounds and eight points for the winners, while Shamus Reimold had five assists and as many points. Colin Clemente had 15 points and Chris Shaker 14 to lead Warren JFK, while John DiFiore contributed nine.
Farrell 61, Sharon 60 (OT)
SHARON, Pa. -- Brian Dungee went coast-to-coast and hit a lay-up just before the buzzer to give the Steelers the extra-session win.
Dungee and Kellen Newby had 17 points apiece for the Steelers (9-10).
Justin Gartner scored 27 points for the Tigers.
