GIRLS BASKETBALL Bodrick scores 21 as Mooney spills Harding, 55-45



The Cardinals used the foul line down the stretch to subdue the Raiders.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Junior guard Amber Bodrick scored 21 points as Cardinal Mooney High used a strong free throw shooting effort to outlast Warren Harding 55-45 in a Steel Valley Conference girls basketball game Thursday.
Warren Harding jumped out to a 14-7 lead after eight minutes, but Bodrick responded with an eight-point second quarter as the Cardinals (4-9, 1-2) took a 23-18 lead at the half.
"Everybody did their part and contributed down the stretch," said Mooney's first-year coach, Jack Bermann.
In the fourth quarter, Desirae Jenkins scored 11 of her 21 points as Warren Harding (9-4, 1-2 SVC) pulled within a point, 42-41. From there Mooney made 13-of-18 free throws.
Gina Brunetti scored 10 points for the Cards who made 23-of-35 foul shots for the game.
Janine McDonald scored 14 points for Warren Harding.
Ursuline 54, Akron Hoban 33
YOUNGSTOWN -- Courtney Davidson scored 23 points and Tyra Grant added 15 to lead Ursuline.
A solid defensive performance by the Irish (12-1) limited the Knights (10-5) to 25 points through three quarters.
Grant grabbed seven rebounds and Davidson had six assists.
Ashley Horton led Hoban with 10 points.
East Palestine 59, Sebring 28
EAST PALESTINE -- The Bulldogs (4-7, 2-4 Tri-County League) turned in strong defensive performance.
Sam DiCello spared the Bulldogs with 16 points and Ashley Ehrenberg added 15.
Stephanie Foster grabbed seven of 31 rebounds and Jennessa Greenawald had four assists and four steals.
Ashley Amabeli led the Trojans (3-8, 1-5) with seven points.
Badger 43, Bloomfield 21
KINSMAN -- Tessa Bonar had 12 points and nine rebounds for Badger, which led 27-11 at halftime.
Christine Miller had six points and six steals, Samantha Bonar had nine points and Shannon Sudon had six steals for Badger (6-7, 5-2 Northeastern Athletic Conference).
Bristol 51, Lordstown 34
LORDSTOWN -- Bristol broke up the game with 23 points in the second quarter and led 36-18 at the intermission.
Jennifer Armour paced Bristol with 12 points. Jen Bennett led the Red Devils (3-11) with 14 points and Sarah Minor added 12.
Maplewood 48,Pymatuning Valley 39
MECCA -- Stephanie Schwartz scored 13 points while Lisa Flickinger added 11 for Maplewood.
An 18-point second quarter allowed the Rockets to open a 30-21 lead at the break.
Maplewood (13-1) has won its last eight starts.
Nikki Hazlette scored 14 points for the Lakers.
