EDINBORO, PA. Teen fatally stabs father, injures brother, cops say

A crisis counselor said the boy told her he was hearing voices.
EDINBORO, Pa. (AP) -- A teenager called a crisis hot line shortly after he fatally stabbed his father and injured his younger brother, saying voices commanded him to kill humans and that he was afraid of himself, police said.
Jordan Michael Carter, 17, of Edinboro, called the Erie County Crisis Services Hot line "in hysterics" and told a counselor that he "wanted to die for what he had done," according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Police charged Carter with homicide, attempted homicide and aggravated assault in the stabbings of Troy Carter, 42, and Joshua Carter, 15. Jordan Carter was being held without bail at the Erie County Prison, which said he did not have an attorney.
A woman who answered the phone Monday at a number listed for Troy Carter said she was not answering questions.
Jordan Carter told the counselor he had stabbed his father "all over" with a butcher knife and had stabbed his brother about 10 minutes before calling the hot line around 1:40 p.m. Sunday.
"I am afraid of myself," Carter told the crisis worker, according to the affidavit. He told her "that he was hearing 'commands' like 'humans are evil and you need to kill them,'" the affidavit said.
'Getting louder'
He told the worker that the voices "were getting louder and that they never used to be this loud," according to the affidavit. The worker kept Carter on the line for about 35 minutes until state police arrived.
Karen Rothgreb, who lives on the same street as the Carters, said Jordan Carter has "never been a problem."
"He's always been real nice and polite and courteous," she said.
"I don't understand how this could have happened. You don't just wake up one day and hear voices," she said, adding that while Jordan Carter was "depressed a bit," she was unaware of any other psychiatric problems. "We're just totally baffled. For Jordan to do anything like this is totally absurd."
The attacks occurred in the Carter family home, about 20 miles south of Erie.
Joshua Carter was flown by helicopter to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, but the family requested that his condition not be released, according to the hospital.
Joshua had gotten on another phone in the house while his brother was speaking with the counselor and told her he was bleeding from his head and back.
