HORIZON Monserez scores 25 in Butler's victory

INDIANAPOLIS -- Mike Monserez scored 16 of his 25 points at the foul line Thursday to lead Butler to a 72-54 victory over Loyola of Chicago.
Monserez made all of his free throws, grabbed nine rebounds and had six assists.
Jamie Smalligan added 15 points and made 3-of-5 3-pointers for the Bulldogs (5-9, 1-4 Horizon League), who snapped a five-game losing streak.
It was the longest losing streak for a Butler team since 1989-90, when Butler dropped 11 straight.
The Bulldogs got off to a good start, shooting 50 percent from the field in the first half. They shot 46.8 percent from the field for the game.
Paul McMillan and Terrance Whiters shouldered most of the scoring load for the Ramblers (6-8, 2-3), who trailed by just five at halftime. McMillan finished with 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting for Loyola, while Whiters had 15.
Butler responded with an 11-4 run to open the second half and led by as many as 13 with 3:17 to go.
Duane Lightfoot, a senior who began the season in Butler's starting lineup, scored 11 points off the bench.
Detroit 70, Ill.-Chicago 67
DETROIT -- Elijah Warren scored 21 points and connected on five of his eight 3-point attempts. The Flames had a chance to tie the game with three seconds to play but were unable to get a shot off before the buzzer.
Detroit (8-6, 2-2 HL), which led the entire second half, was 8-for-8 at the free throw line in the final three minutes, including a pair from Warren with four seconds to play.
The win completed a season sweep of the Flames (11-6, 2-3) and ended Detroit's two-game home losing streak, the Titans' longest since the 1994-95 season.
Illinois-Chicago's Aaron Carr and Cedric Banks finished the game with 22 and 15 points, respectively. Ryvon Coville had 12 points and three rebounds for Detroit.
