Salem income tax
SALEM -- Last year marked the city's best year for receipts from its 1 percent income tax since 2000.
City Treasurer Robert Tullis told city council Tuesday that the city took in $3,699,667 from the tax in 2003. In 2002, revenue was $3,628,464.
The last time the city had higher returns was in 2000, when it took in $3,713,009.
Tullis said it's difficult to account for the upsurge. It's probably because of normal swings in the economy, he said.
