TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP Salem sets mark in defeat of Chaney; Rayen beats Niles

The Quakers' 52-point margin of victory was the largest in school history.
AUSTINTOWN -- The Salem High girls basketball team posted its largest tournament win in school history, as the Quakers defeated Chaney 77-25 Thursday in the Divisional II sectional at Fitch High School.
Renee Farina tied her season high with 18 points to lead the Quakers (22-1), who led 41-9 at the intermission. Salem has allowed 30 points or less in 10 games this year and has won 22 in a row.
Sarah Hamilton scored 13 points and pulled in eight rebounds. Salem blocked 12 shots, paced by Lauren Teal with six.
Salem will now meet The Rayen School in a district semifinal next Thursday at 6 p.m.
Rayen 55, Niles 46
Junior guard Taniesha Holland helped the Tigers (12-9) hold off a Niles (11-11) comeback.
Rayen led by 21 points, 44-23, with 1 minute, 30 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
The Red Dragons went on a 19-3 run and Michelle Melillo turned an offensive rebound into a layup, moving Niles to within five points (47-42) with a minute to play.
Holland hit six straight free throws from there to help preserve the win.
Holland finished 9-for-9 at the line and was 7-for-15 from the floor, scoring 24 points. She also had eight rebounds, six assists and five steals.
Also for Rayen, Ashley Myers scored 12 points and freshman Kenysha Tennant had 11 points.
Stacia Ray hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points for Niles. She had five rebounds.
Perry 56, Lakeview 36
ASHTABULA -- Perry limited Lakeview to 23 points through three quarters as it eliminated the Bulldogs 56-36 in a Div. II sectional game at Edgewood High School. Amanda Tsipis sparked Perry (18-3) with 23 points. Kim Siegel added 10.
Lindsay Whetzel led the Bulldogs (9-13) with 11 points. Christina Martin added nine rebounds and Natalie Sudzina had four assists.
Division III
ROOTSTOWN -- Regina put five players in double figures as it eliminated LaBrae 93-19 in a sectional final at Rootstown High.
In another contest, Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas defeated Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 57-40.
Simone Redd triggered Regina's (19-2) balanced scoring attack with 18 points.
Laura Bate and Maddie D'Orio led LaBrae (2-19) with six points apiece.
