Workshops cover ways to plan and prepare for the what-ifs of becoming a caregiver.
CHAMPION -- The Workforce Development and Continuing Studies Center at Kent State University Trumbull Campus will offer caregiver seminars in March.
The workshops cover ways to plan and prepare for the what-ifs of becoming a caregiver.
The workshops:
U"When and How Did I Become a Caregiver," 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, introduces the topic of caregiving and the broader subject of long-term care. Discussion topics also include how and when to get involved in older loved ones' lives and the aging process.
U"Compassion Fatigue," 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, helps caregivers identify the signs of compassion fatigue and offers solutions on how to overcome it while caring for a loved one.
U"Retirement Homes and Long-term Care Facilities," 10 a.m. to noon, March 13, reviews the factors that precipitate a move for seniors from independent to supportive housing and then looks at the types of resources and facilities available. It examines strategies to help make the move as smooth as possible and reviews the issues of loss affecting an elderly person.
U"Home and Community-Based Services," 1 to 3 p.m. March 13, reviews some of the programs and services available to help older people stay independent and living in their own homes for as long as possible. The session will review the home and community-based options available and discuss eligibility and criteria for making the appropriate care choice.
