PENNSYLVANIA Erie Prep wrestler loses, transfers

Kory Hiner won't take the mat for Ft. LeBoeuf.
Erie Cathedral Prep sophomore 103-pounder Kory Hiner was the favorite to win this weekend's District 10 Class AAA championship.
That is, until he lost his spot on his own team.
Hiner, ranked in the top 15 in the state, was beaten by freshman teammate Joe McCullough when the Ramblers wrestled to determine tournament spots. Hiner then transferred back to his home district of Fort LeBoeuf.
Hiner, who was 14-4, will not wrestle for the Bison, which recently placed second in the PIAA Class AA team championships.
One reason: the 103-pound spot at Fort LeBoeuf is already taken by Hiner's older brother, Kody, a senior. Kody Hiner is currently top-ranked in the state in Class AA.
Record setter(s)
Two wrestlers have a chance to set the record for all-time victories in District 3, and the race couldn't be any closer.
Seniors Gary Mayfield of Hanover High School in Adams County and Philip Bomberger of Juniata High School in Juniata County will enter this weekend's District 3 Class AA wrestling championships with 155 career victories apiece.
Both are within range of the record 162 victories by Conrad Weiser's Evan Sola, a two-time PIAA champion who finished his career in 2001.
The district tournament is followed by the PIAA Southeast region tournament and the PIAA championships, which means each wrestler could have another 10 to 12 matches.
Mayfield, wrestling at 112 pounds after previously being at 103, is attempting to become District 3's eighth four-time champion. Bomberger, who has always wrestled at 171 pounds, is seeking his third District 3 championship.
