FISHING
Trout stockings
More than 110,000 rainbow trout, measuring 10 to 13 inches, will be released in 47 Ohio lakes and ponds -- including Glacier Lake in Mill Creek Metropolitan Park on April 1 -- from March through May.
The daily catch limit for inland lakes is five trout per angler.
Anglers age 16 and older must have an Ohio fishing license in order to fish the state's public waters. The 2004-2005 fishing license can be purchased now and is required March 1.
Additional information about spring trout releases is available by calling an ODNR Division of Wildlife district office in Akron, Athens, Columbus, Findlay, and Xenia, or by calling toll free (800) WILDLIFE.
SHOOTING
NRA-Beeman eventset for Howland site
The NRA-Beeman Grand Prix Championship, a national air gun competition for those with physical disabilities, will be making two stops in Northeastern Ohio in March as part of the competition's 2004, 12-city tour.
The event will be held at Chip's Sports Center in Howland on March 12 and will be sponsored by Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital as part of the hospital's progressive adaptive sports and recreation program.
On March 13 the event moves to the American Sportsman Archery, Guns & amp; Ammo Shop in Columbia Station, southwest of Cleveland.
Competitors earn points based upon their performance at each stop on the tour. Points are totaled at the end of the tour to determine the individual and team champions. One of the unique features of the NRA-Beeman tour is a mathematical formula developed to allow different disability, gender and age groups to compete on an equal basis for points.
The events begin at 9 a.m. and there is no admission charge. For information call (703) 267-1495.
