NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE Scrappers hopes fade in 13-0 loss

Mahoning Valley is two games back in the wild card race with six games to go.
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. -- With six games remaining, Mahoning Valley's hopes for a wild card berth in the New York-Penn League playoffs are starting to slip away.
The Scrappers were shut out 13-0 by Jamestown Sunday and trail Hudson Valley, which beat New Jersey 8-3, by two games.
Hudson Valley (37-29) and Brooklyn (38-30) are in a virtual tie for first place in the McNamara Division, and both are two games ahead of Mahoning Valley (37-33), which is in second place in the Pinckney Division.
Seven-run third inning
The Jammers (25-42), in last place in the Pinckney Division, broke away with a seven-run surge in the third inning.
With one out, Joseph Pietro walked and Brian Cleveland reached base on an error, then Brad Davis singled to load the bases. J.T. Restko singled home Pietro and Cleveland and Jonathan Fulton singled home Davis. With two outs, Brett Carroll doubled home Fulton and Restko. Jared Gaston walked and after a passed ball, Juan Lindesey singled home Carroll. Pietro came up to bat again and his single chased home Gaston.
It rained off and on during the game, in which the Scrappers left 11 batters on base.
Jamestown used four pitchers that limited the Scrappers to six hits. Brett Parker and Tim Montgomery had two hits each, and Christopher Giminez doubled.
Daniel Barone (3-5) worked three innings in relief, gave up two hits and struck out one, to pick up the win.
Mahoning Valley's Ryan Knippschild (3-3) went three innings, gave up eight hits and seven runs, to take the loss.
