SOCCER Ursuline, JFK boys wage 1-1 standoff



Justin Stangler's goal pulled JFK even after Vlad Lungu scored for the Irish.
WARREN -- Ursuline High and Warren JFK played to a 1-1 tie Thursday in a Steel Valley Conference game at the JFK soccer field.
Vlad Lungu put the Irish (0-0-2, 0-0-1) ahead when he scored a goal on an assist from Chris DePaola 3 minutes, 30 seconds into the first half.
Ursuline's goalkeeper, Jerad Daly, had 11 assists.
Justin Stangler scored the goal for Warren JFK (1-0-1, 0-0-1) in the second half on an assist from Brian Wolnik, the Eagles' goalie, who had 15 saves.
Champion 5 Newton Falls 0
NEWTON FALLS -- John Emery and Chris Palm each scored two goals for the Golden Flashes (1-0, 1-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Matt Brugler scored the other goal and had two assists. Nathan Blazek also had an assist.
Champion had 18 shots on goal and the Tigers had two. Brent Davis, Newton Falls goalkeeper, had 15 saves.

LEAVITTSBURG -- Blaine Peterson scored five times and Cody Ozaniah and Alex John each had a goal for the Vikings (1-1).
For United (0-1), Austin Dangler had three goals and one assist while Brock Volio and Ashley Rickard also scored.
Columbiana 5, South Range 1
COLUMBIANA -- Nathan Cooper scored two goals and Kyle Martin, Eric Ostrander and David Jackson each scored once for the Clippers (2-0).
Jared Jay scored for the Raiders (0-1).
Heartland Christian 4,First Assembly of God Academy 1
COLUMBIANA -- Senior Zach Chamberlain scored two goals for the Lions (1-0). Blake Kozma added a goal and had two assists. Mike Barborak scored the other goal and had an assists.
Heartland had 32 shots on goal and First Assembly had 14.
The Lions' goalkeeper Cody Patterson had eight saves.
Girls
KINSMAN -- Hannah Miller scored two goals as Badger (2-0) defeated Warren Harding 3-1.
Tessa Bonar added the other goal for the Braves, and Sarah Dunfee had an assist. Hayley Jenkin had 12 saves. Badger had 23 shots on goal, compared to 13 for the Raiders (1-1).
Ashley Bennett scored the goal for Harding. Stephanie Cross had 21 saves.
Ashtabula Edgewood 6,Maplewood 4
CORTLAND -- Chrystal Thompson scored five goals for the Warriors (3-0). Maureen Cemi added the other goal.
Lyndsay Pacurian, Brittany Spencer, Tori Spencer and Leigha Dean scored a goal apiece for the Rockets (0-2). Nikki Grant, Pacurian, T. Spencer and Dean had an assist apiece.
Edgewood had 14 shots on goal and Maplewood had 16.
The Rockets' sophomore goalkeeper Bonnee Clute had eight saves and now has 43 for the season.
Pymatuning Valley 4,Youngstown Christian 3
ANDOVER -- Kara Cooper scored twice and Chelsey Tate added another goal as the Eagles (0-1) jumped out to a 3-1 lead at the break.
Both goal scorers are freshmen.
