SOCCER Cardinal Mooney girls defeat Ursuline

Niles beat West Branch on Jessica Pallante's goal.
STRUTHERS -- Sophomore Mimi Vitello scored two goals and assisted on another in the first 40 minutes of action alone as the Cardinal Mooney High girls soccer team defeated Ursuline 7-0 at the Tri-County Sports Complex Wednesday.
Mooney (1-0, 1-0 Steel Valley Conference) got its first goal from Vitello, with junior Colleen Zajac contributing the assist.
With the game 15 minutes old, Vitello assisted Kelly Burke, who beat Ursuline goalkeeper Jolanta Carkido with a left-footed shot into the top corner of the goal.
Vitello scored again on a ball from junior Kelli Willis.
Willis figured into the next two goals of the first half when she assisted on Burke's second goal and then scored herself on an assist from junior Marisa Simon.
In the second half Simon helped set up Burke for her third goal to make it 6-0 and senior Marta Bruner capped off the scoring midway through the second half.
The Irish are 0-2, 0-1.
Champion 2, Newton Falls 0
CHAMPION -- In the Trumbull Athletic Conference opener for each team, the Golden Flashes (1-0) got a goal in each half.
Carrie Dawson scored off an assist by Britney Skeels while Amanda Perry scored an unassisted goal.
Jessica Wood had six saves for Champion. For Newton Falls (0-2, 0-1), goalie Amanda Pagano had 15 saves.
Niles 1, West Branch 0
BELOIT -- With about eight minutes remaining in the game, Jessica Pallante scored for Niles.
The Warriors were opening their season.
Boys
NILES -- With about 10 minutes remaining Matt McCain scored from about 22 yards out as West Branch scored its first goal of the season in a 1-0 win at Niles. The Warriors (1-1) were blanked by Poland in their season-opener on Monday.
Niles is 1-1.
Crestview 3, East Palestine 3
EAST PALESTINE -- Cory Leeson, Aaron Stewart and Jordan Vignon scored goals for the Rebels while James Frost, Daniel Jones and Dustin Mercer had assists.
Shawn McCaughley, Brandon Full and Allison McMillen scored goals for the Bulldogs who led 2-1 at the half.
Cory Chick and Full assisted on scores.
