TORONTO -- David Ortiz homered twice and drove in four runs, and Curt Schilling earned his 16th win, joining Oakland's Mark Mulder (17-4) as the only AL pitchers with 16 or more. He allowed one run and seven hits in 61/3 innings with nine strikeouts. Manny Ramirez hit his AL-leading 34th homer and Orlando Cabrera also went deep.
Tigers 5, White Sox 4
DETROIT -- Marcus Thames drove in three runs, and Nate Robertson (11-7) allowed one run and eight hits in eight inning as Detroit sent Chicago to its sixth loss in seven games. Carlos Guillen added three hits, including a homer.
Twins 8, Rangers 5
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Luis Rivas had a double and triple off Ryan Drese (11-7), then homered against Carlos Almanzar leading off the eighth. Lew Ford went 3-for-5, a triple and two singles off Drese. Kyle Lohse (7-10) allowed five runs and eight hits in five innings, and Joe Nathan pitched the ninth for his 35th save, escaping a bases-loaded jam when Laynce Nix hit a game-ending flyout.
Athletics 3, Orioles 0
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Marco Scutaro hit a three-run homer off B.J. Ryan (3-4) with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Octavio Dotel (3-1) pitched a one-hit ninth in relief of Rich Harden, who allowed four hits in eight inning. Oakland has won three straight, while Baltimore has lost a season-high nine in a row.
Angels 21, Royals 6
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Jeff DaVanon became the first Angels player to hit for the cycle since Dave Winfield at Kansas City on June 24, 1991, and drove in four runs as Anaheim tied a season high with 22 hits and completed a seven-game season sweep. Jose Molina hit his first career grand slam, and Garret Anderson had five RBIs and three hits, including a three-run homer. Darin Erstad and Vladimir Guerrero had three hits each, and Erstad scored four runs.
Devil Rays 6, Mariners 5
SEATTLE -- Aubrey Huff drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI groundout in the ninth, and Tampa Bay completed its first series sweep of Seattle. Travis Harper (5-2) pitched 12/3 scoreless innings, and Danys Baez got three outs for his 25th save. The Mariners (46-79) fell a season-low 33 games under .500 and were swept for the 10th time.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Cubs 4, Brewers 2
CHICAGO -- Corey Patterson hit a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth inning as Chicago won for the eighth time in 11 games. Moises Alou's eighth-inning solo homer had Greg Maddux headed for his 302nd win, but LaTroy Hawkins (3-4) allowed Chris Magruder's RBI double with two outs in the ninth.
Astros 7, Phillies 4
HOUSTON -- Jeff Kent hit a three-run homer in the eighth off Felix Rodriguez (5-7) following Lance Berkman's tying single, and Houston swept the season series 6-0. Kent also connected in the second inning, and Carlos Beltran and Morgan Ensberg each homered for the Astros. Chad Qualls (2-0) pitched a perfect eighth and Brad Lidge, Houston's fifth pitcher, got three outs for his 17th save, completing a five-hitter.
Braves 8, Rockies 1
ATLANTA -- Chipper Jones homered twice and matched his career high with five RBIs, and Atlanta won for the 19th time in 27 games. Eli Marrero also homered off Jeff Francis (0-1), who gave up six runs, six hits and three homers in his major league debut.
Padres 4, Mets 0
NEW YORK -- Brian Lawrence (13-10) escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first and pitched a six-hitter for his second straight complete game. New York has lost four in a row, the last three to the Padres. Mark Loretta hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth off Al Leiter (9-5), Phil Nevin homered in the sixth and San Diego added a pair of runs in the seventh on Brian Giles' sacrifice fly and Nevin's RBI single.
Expos 6, Dodgers 3
MONTREAL -- Brian Schneider broke a 3-all tie with a three-run homer in the sixth, and Montreal connected four times off Jose Lima (11-4). Brad Wilkerson hit a leadoff home run in the first, and Tony Batista and Juan Rivera later homered.
Cardinals 6, Reds 5
CINCINNATI -- Albert Pujols and Jim Edmonds hit two-run homers, and pinch-runner Reggie Sanders scored the go-ahead run in the ninth inning on a wild pitch by Joe Valentine (1-2). St. Louis, which overcame a 5-2 deficit, improved the best road record in the major leagues to 41-20, beating Cincinnati for the 14th time in 18 games this season.
Giants 6, Marlins 5
MIAMI -- Rudy Seanez (1-1) intentionally walked Barry Bonds to load the bases in the 10th inning, then forced home the go-ahead run by walking pinch-hitter A.J. Pierzynski on four pitches. San Francisco's Pedro Feliz hit a two-run homer off Guillermo Mota to tie it at 5 in the eighth.
