The black-tie event will benefit local programs.
LIBERTY -- Walter J. "Buzz" Pishkur will be the honorary chairman of the eighth annual Red and White Ball planned for May 8 at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex Centre by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Proceeds from the black-tie event will fund local programs, including disaster services, emergency assistance for military families, and health and safety programs.
The ball will be held from 6 p.m. to midnight, and will include silent and live auctions featuring trips and sporting-event packages. There also will be musical entertainment.

Honorary chairman
Pishkur is a native of Hubbard and serves as president of Aqua Ohio Inc., formerly Consumers Ohio Water Co. He is a trustee for the Youngstown State University Penguin Club and Industrial Information Institute for Education and a past member of the National City Bank Northeast Advisory board of directors. He serves as director of the Ohio Chapter of the National Association of Water Companies.
He was the chairman of the Youngstown-Mahoning Valley United Way Campaign in 2000 and recently was elected to the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce board of directors.
Pishkur was named the 2003 Alumnus of the Year by Hubbard High School Alumni Association and was inducted into the 2001 Greater Youngstown Baseball Oldtimers Association Hall of Fame for founding and operating a baseball training school in Hubbard.
