Lowellville picks court personnel

LOWELLVILLE -- Village council appointed James E. Lanzo to serve as prosecutor and Carol Flora to serve as clerk of the soon-to-be-established mayor's court.
The appointments, made during a special meeting Monday, will become effective as soon as the Ohio Supreme Court OKs operation of the mayor's court, which is expected in mid-May, said Mayor Jim Iudiciani.
Lanzo is the village solicitor; Flora is clerk/treasurer.
The mayor's court is expected to bring in $25,000 a year, less expenses, Iudiciani said. Under the current arrangement with Struthers Municipal Court, which hears cases resulting from citations issued by Lowellville police, the village receives between $4,500 and $5,000 a year.
Salaries for the prosecutor and clerk of courts are $250 and $100 per month respectively.
The mayor's court will primarily handle traffic cases -- uncontested moving violations -- and first-time drug- and alcohol-related traffic violations, Iudiciani said.
Court will be held at 6 p.m. every other Tuesday.
