Dog attacks 2 children at home of relative
SHARON, Pa. -- Police said an East Connelly Boulevard brother and sister were taken to Sharon Regional Health System's hospital after being attacked by a dog at a relative's home on Third Avenue.
Alauna Laughlin, 2, was admitted in good condition, but she faced surgery for at least nine bites on her face, head, arm, hand and foot, police said.
Her brother, Bryce, 5, was treated for a single bite on his right leg, police said.
The children were visiting the home of an aunt on Third Avenue around 5 p.m. Monday and were in the back yard with the aunt's dog, a Chow mix, when the attack occurred, police said.
Alauna was feeding the dog some treats when the animal attacked her, police said.
The children's mother screamed and the dog turned its attention to Bryce, biting him on the leg, police said.
The dog was seized by the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter and probably will be destroyed, police said.
No charges are contemplated against the aunt, whom police said violated no laws. They declined to identify her.
